Happy Interiors Blog Igor JosifovicIn search of home and bathrooom design ideas to stand out from the rest and lift your mood? Igor Josifovic, a marketing consultant based in Munich has a great eye for fun, colorful design with a big, happy personality. Mr. Steam interviewed him along with the team of design experts and bloggers who attended the London Design Festival with the Modenus BlogTour, sponsored in part by Mr. Steam.

Here's what he had to say about his favorite ways to add bright pops of color to every room.

Mr. Steam: What are the newest, most interesting design directions you saw during London Design Week with BlogTour?

For a colour lover like me, all the colourful finds were a real highlight. I particularly loved the trend to incorporate colour on unexpected home accessories or features, just like inside a lampshade, on the brims of a furniture piece, etc.

Mr. Steam: How might you (or how do you) apply these trends to your own work?

I felt reassured with my notion of being fearless with interior design and trespassing classical design borders by incorporating the unexpected element to add interest to a home. Be considerate, design with a certain intention and be authentic and be you. Add that quirk factor to your home. No matter what others might think, no matter what glossy interiors magazines postulate. Add that individual touch and make your house your home.

Mr. Steam: What do you think the impact of these trends might be on residential design in 2013? On bathroom design?

I think that colour is a strong element to be applied with more courage in residential design. Also in the bathroom, I see the courage to incorporate colour. Be it bold with colourful tiling or be it delicate with colour accents on fittings such as a stark yellow faucet. It's all about that individual touch to spark interest.

Mr. Steam: Do you find that residential design varies widely from country to country, or do you think it is becoming more international?

Overarching trends do have a global impact. However, the interpretation of those trends is very local. This is absolutely normal as countries vary in residential design due to historical developments, cultural differences, spatial predispositions and market trends. Take the difference between the US and Germany as an example: German households and bathrooms in particular are generally way smaller than their American counterparts. This has a significant effect on residential design.

Mr. Steam: What was the most interesting thing you learned about Mr. Steam and/or about steam showers?

The most interesting fact for me was the simplicity of adding a real well-being oasis into literally any home. With Mr. Steam being almost a one-stop shop for the steam shower experience it has become so much easier and very cost-efficient to add a hammam like oasis in modern homes.
