5 SteamTherapy Resolutions And Rewards
We all want to improve ourselves at the start of each new year. But how often have you made those resolutions only to have them fade away by mid-winter? This year, we have a better idea: combine rewards with resolutions.
We invite you to not only choose which SteamTherapy goals you’d like to achieve, but also help you devise a reward system that gives you incentives to keep your resolutions. We suggest that you pick just a couple of ideas such as healthy eating or staying in touch. Start small. Don’t let other people pick your resolutions for you, either!
By making moderate, realistic changes, you’ll form new habits and routines and see the difference in yourself by the time springtime rolls around.
Here are five SteamTherapy resolutions. In each case, we’ve suggested a SteamTherapy reward. But don’t feel you have to stick to our suggestions! Mix it up a little and have fun!
Resolution #1: Keep In Shape
Maybe you actually join that gym this year. Or head to a yoga class. Try to take short walking breaks during the day, whether you take a trip around the office building or head outside. If you’re out of shape, start with just five minutes a day and build from there. Find a walking buddy or two to help keep you motivated and on track.
Reward #1: Finish Your Workout With A Great Steambath!
There’s nothing like steam to remove lactic acid from over-worked muscles and help you relax. It even helps prolong your workout in healthy ways!
Among the great benefits of steambathing is the fact that it increases blood circulation, boosts your metabolism, increases muscular flexibility and on average, burns 150 calories in a 15-minute session at 114 degrees F. This reward actually helps you keep your resolution!

Resolution #2: Eat And Snack Smarter
This is one area where people fail, because their resolution is based in denial instead of common sense. Generally, you shouldn’t swear off all enjoyable food all at once. Instead, consider small changes to your eating habits:
- Sit down whenever you eat. Maybe use smaller plates to fool your eye into eating less. Make each meal an occasion that you savor.
- Eat as many one ingredient foods as you can manage. Processed foods hide sugar, salt, and empty calories. Try fruit and vegetables, healthy nuts, low-fat Greek yogurt, and other non-processed foods. Fruits and vegetables, especially the antioxidant richly colored ones such as blueberries and broccoli, pack a nutritional punch along with fiber.
- It’s okay to snack throughout the day as iit can keep blood sugar levels and energy steady, which actually helps you to control your appetite. But pick the right foods to snack on. Again, try snacks such as fresh or dried fruit, nuts, humus and peanut butter, or dark chocolate with at least 70 percent cocoa solids.
- Plan ahead. By bringing meals and snacks with you, you can avoid the 3-o’clock slump at that tempting vending machine.
Reward #2: Treat Yourself To Some AromaTherapy
This reward may seem contradictory – doesn’t smell trigger hunger? However, medical science suggests that strong odors can reduce our food cravings. A study by BioMed Central claims that we take smaller bites when aroma is more pungent. A WebMD study, ”The Sweet Smell of Diet Success,” speaks of Dr. Alan Hirsch’s development of odor crystals to help control appetite.
Whether or not strong odors will control your appetite, the smell of AromaTherapy in the steambath is a reward in itself and a great way to celebrate a day of healthy eating!

Resolution #3: Keep In Touch With Family And Friends
When you leave work, do you feel like all you have the energy for is to sit in front of the TV? Have you lost touch with the important people in your life? Are you constantly turning down invitations because you just don’t have the energy?
There are actually very important reasons to maintain a good network of friends and family. According to Health Magazine, studies show that you’ll actually get sick less, sleep better, help to keep your brain thriving, and are 50% more likely to live longer. So get out there and see your family and friends and give them a hug!
Reward #3: Hug Yourself With A Warm Towel!
A great way to reward yourself for keeping in touch is yet another hug – this one from a towel warmed especially for you after a bath or steam shower!

Resolution # 4: Spend More Time Outdoors
Do you find yourself going from home to car to office and back again? When you go out, do you look for the closest place to park so you don’t spend too much time outside?
If so, you’re losing out on significant health benefits. The Vitamin D from sunlight can reduce depression and food cravings. Spending time in nature can help you become less anxious, giving you the time to pause and consider what’s truly important. Don’t let the cold keep you inside: bundle up and get out there!
Besides, walking outside with friends is a great way to combine three resolutions in one – keeping yourself fit, staying in touch, and spending more time in nature!
Reward #4: Use TALA® Products To Replenish Your Weathered Skin
While being outside has multiple health benefits, there’s no question that it can weather your skin. During the winter months particularly, you need a skin care regimen that will help replenish and soften your skin while making you feel pampered doing it!

Resolution # 5: Get More Sleep
We tend to minimize our own needs to the benefit of other people. That often means we push ourselves late in the day or get up early to make sure the house is running smoothly and that can come at the expense of sleep.
Once again, we may be sacrificing the very thing we need to keep things ticking. The right amount of sleep, a minimum of seven to eight hours a night, will give us the energy we need to take charge of the important things in life. It will also help us if we’re feeling stress and anxiety and might even be instrumental in fighting weight gain.

Reward #5: Use MusicTherapy In Your “Me” (As In Your Bath Or Shower) Time
As we mentioned in “Why Music and SteamTherapy Belong Together,” listening to calm music for 45 minutes before bedtime can help you sleep better and even stave off insomnia. Combining music with steam doubles your relaxation, helping you drift into a restful, healthy sleep.
