North Georgia Based PDI Blends Steam Showers with Yoga

Northern Georgia-based Plumbing Distributors Inc. (PDI) has noticed a steam shower-based wellness trend that blends the steam experience with yoga. Located in Lawrenceville, GA, about 30 miles northeast of Atlanta, PDI has been serving area designers, architects, plumbers and home builders for more than 43 years through several locations.

Yoga + Warmth + Humidity = Hot Yoga

“Although steam has long been known for its antioxidant and health benefits, today’s steam showers offer so much more for homeowners,” says Beth Gross, showroom consultant at PDI, a family owned kitchen, bath, lighting and wholesale plumbing supply distributor based in Georgia.

We already know that soothing and therapeutic steam has countless health benefits, but what happens when you pair steam with India's ancient practice of yoga?

You’ve probably heard of yoga – an ancient method of discipline based on a harmonizing system of development for the body, mind, and spirit. Yoga can make the body strong and flexible as well as improve the functions of the respiratory, circulatory, digestive and hormonal systems.

There are many different types of yoga. One specific style of yoga, known as hot yoga, has been growing in popularity in recent years. Formally known as Bikram yoga, hot yoga is performed in a space heated to 105 degrees with 40 percent humidity.

That's not exactly a steam shower environment which is 100% humidity with temperature ranges from 100 to 120 degrees F. However, that added warmth and humidity is what makes hot yoga stand out. Then, post workout, head for the steam shower to truly complete the experience.

The benefits of hot yoga mesh well with the benefits of steam. Hot yoga benefits include improved flexibility, strength, breathing, cardio, detox, focus and healing.

Athletes use steam to increase blood circulation throughout the body to improve performance and endurance, which is very useful during an activity like yoga,” explains Gross. “People also use steam because of its benefits to breathing/respiratory issues, another reason many yoga enthusiasts have turned to hot yoga as a supplement to their traditional sessions.”

Steam Shower Add-ons Enhance Hot Yoga Experience

Gross has found that clients have often heard of steam, but aren’t aware of the add-ons, uses and additional benefits that make at-home steam rooms a necessary luxury.

“Steam isn’t hard to sell, the key is bringing it up,” says Gross, who targets buyers in the metro Atlanta and Nashville communities. “Most of our clients know the basics about steam showers. What they may not know is how advanced today’s systems have become.”  She points to in-demand accessories such as AromaTherapy, ChromaTherapy, MusicTherapy and remote steam management technologies.

Steam Shower Add-ons Enhance Hot Yoga Experience

Using AromaSteam or MusicTherapy during a steam shower hot yoga session will elevate the calming and soothing benefits of the yoga discipline. Whether you’re looking to sit in your steam shower and soak up the benefits, or if you’re trying to be more active, a steam shower can fulfill all of your wellness needs.
