Making Steam the Star: Raina Kattelson Styles a Steam Shower

Imagine having to create the perfect steam shower bathroom set so as to make steam the star for a photo shoot. That's what Raina Kattelson did in the fall of 2012 in Mr.Steam's Long Island City warehouse in the midst of SuperStorm Sandy.

Oh, and the set she designed for this beautiful steam shower bathroom measured 15' by 35'.

Daunting, wouldn't you agree?

Not only did Raina succeed in creating a truly beautiful, zen-like steam shower set, but the end result surpassed everyone's expectations!

Raina Kattelson, as Raina describes in the Raina section of A Stylist's Life, "has been designing since she was a kid." Vogue Magazine, independent movies and shopping Bloomingdale's with her father, respected photographer Sy Kattelson, influenced her as did launching her own line of hip, European influenced kids clothes and studying fashion and display design at Parsons School of Design.

Since then, she has become "a stylist-styling fashion, beauty, still life and interiors..." 

If you remember from a past article - Home and Bathroom Design Ideas: Stylist Raina Kattelson Interview - Mr.Steam, or rather Mrs. Steam (aka Martha Orellana) first met Raina during BlogTour London 2012.

That visit led not only to meeting Raina, but also to the discovery of the perfect tub for the steam shower bathroom set.

Here are the challenges associated with making steam the star:

"The major obstacle in this shoot was to create a dream bathroom, yet at the same time remain simple enough that it didn't overtake the product, which was a fairly small subtle part of the bathroom.  In previous sets consumers were confused by what was being sold, focusing more on the bathroom and fixtures, than on the crazy great product. Yet it still had to be luxurious enough that it made everyone race out and buy a Mr. Steam."
