At La Coulée Douce, our goal was to create more than a beautiful vacation rental. We wanted to offer our guests a complete private wellness experience inspired by Nordic spa traditions, combining steam, dry heat, hydrotherapy, cold exposure, and relaxation in a peaceful waterfront setting in Québec, Canada.
From the beginning, the steam room was planned as one of the central features of the chalet. Outdoor hot tubs are common in the vacation rental market, but a dedicated private steam room remains very rare. We saw this as an opportunity to create a truly distinctive guest experience and to position La Coulée Douce as a high-end wellness destination rather than a standard chalet rental.
Matching Premium Equipment to a Luxury Retreat
The chalet was built by Baillargeon Coulombe, and because the property was designed as a luxury retreat, we knew the steam room equipment had to match the same level of quality. We were looking for a system that would feel premium, reliable, quiet, elegant, and easy to use. Since our guests stay at the chalet independently, without us being on site, simplicity was very important. The system needed to be intuitive enough for guests to understand quickly, while still delivering the kind of refined experience expected in a private spa environment.
Why MrSteam Was the Natural Choice
MrSteam was a natural choice for the project. The steam generator, Linear SteamHead, and iSteamX control allowed us to integrate performance, design, and ambiance into a single wellness space. We especially appreciated the clean, minimalist look of the Linear SteamHead, which fits beautifully with the streamlined design of the hammam. The soft, quiet steam delivery helps create a calm and immersive atmosphere, while the chromatherapy system adds an important sensory layer to the experience. We also wanted the option to incorporate aromatherapy through the Linear SteamHead’s integrated aroma feature, adding another dimension to the guest ritual.
Designing a Coherent Thermal Circuit
The planning process required close coordination between the chalet concept, the construction team, and the installer. Because the steam room was not an afterthought, it was integrated into the overall design of the property from the start. The objective was not simply to add another amenity, but to create a coherent private thermal circuit: guests can begin with moist heat in the MrSteam hammam and move to other amenities, such as relaxing in the year-round hot tub, and then rest by the fire or in one of the relaxation areas.
